Knit Picks Wool of the Andes
5 balls -110yds / 50g per ball
Color Used: Maple Syrup
Lion Brand Jiffy
Less than 1 ball used
Color Used : Dusty Pink



Needles & Notions :
US Size 9 (Straight or Circular)
Yarn Needle
Cable Needle
Needle & Thread
Row Counter if needed
Material for lining handles & bag (optional)
4 Buttons (1.5", optional)



Abbreviations :
K = Knit
P = Purl
CO = Cast On
yf = Yarn Front
yb = Yarn Back
sl = slip
k2tog = knit 2 sts together
C9B = slip next 4 sts onto a cable needle and hold at back of work, knit the next 5 sts from left-hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle
C4B = slip 2 sts on cable needle, knit the next 2 sts, then knit the 2 sts from cable needle

(Twisted Cable RIbbing)

Row 3 : P2, *k2tog but do not slip off needle, then insert right-hand needle between these 2 sts. and knit the 1st st. again, slipping both sts. off needle tog., p2; rep from * to end.
Row 4 : as 2nd row
Rep these 4 rows twice more
Knit 2 rows
Next Row : (RS) knit
Row 2 : K1, *yf, sl 2 sts purlwise, yb, k4; rep from* to last 3 sts, yf, sl 2 purlwise, yb, k1.
Row 3 : K1, *keeping yarn at back sl 2 purlwise, k4 rep from* to last 3 sts., sl 2 purlwise, k1.

Rep these 12 rows til they measure 26" or desired length of handles.
Then knit 4 rows,
Bind Off.
Block if desired. Makes them easier to line.

knit every row til piece measures 3"

Cable Around Bag
With another color of yarn
CO 10
1st row : (RS) k
2nd row : k3, p4, k3.
3rd row : k
4th row : k3, p4, k3
5th row : k3, C4B, k3.
6th row : k3, p4, k3.
Rep these 6 rows til measures about 30"
This length is long enough but not to long, when tied pulls in bag alittle.
Make 4 Pompoms attach to ends of. (Mine are about 1" pompoms)



Finishing Bag
If you choose to line bag, do so after all other pieces have been attached.
With wrong sides of bag facing each other, sew bottom of bag, then the sides up to the top of ribbing.
Attach handles, one on each side, button evenly spaced on top of where you attach the handles.
Attach small knitted pieces about 3" from side and 1" down from handle.
Pull Cable through loops and tie on one side.

Row 5-6 : Knit
Row 7 : K2, *sl 1 purlwise, k1; rep from * to end, k1.
Row 8 : K2, *yf, sl 1 purlwise, yb, k1; rep from * to end, k1.
Rep these 8 row
til piece measures about 20" (or desired length) end with row 8
Next Row (a knit row) : k7, BO 2, k7, BO 2, k7.
Next Row (also a knit row) : K7, CO 2, k7, CO 2, k7.
Row 3 of pat. : K1, *sl 1 purlwise, k1; rep. from * to end.
cont. in pat. for about 2".
Next row : BO.

Edging (Ruffles)(This is the only way I know how to explain using a crochet hook. I hope you can understand.
Please let me know if you have any questions.)
Attach yarn,
Chain 3,
Wrap yarn around needle,
Put needle through first stitch, pull through, (3 stitches on needle)
Wrap yarn around needle, pull through 2 loops on needle,
Wrap yarn around needle, pull through 2 loops on needle.
Chain 3,
Wrap yarn around, put needle through same stitch,
Pull through, ( 3 stitches on needle)
Wrap yarn around needle, pull through 2 loops on needle,
Wrap yarn around, pull through 2 loops on needle.
Cont. these steps to end of piece, do for both ends.
Cut yarn, pull end through last loop.

Finishing
Weave in ends.
Sew on buttons.

M1 = pick up horizontal strand of yarn lying between stitch just worked and next stitch and knit it.
K2tog = Knit 2 stitches together
C4F = slip next 2 st. on cable needle hold at front of work, knit next 2 st., than knit 2 st. from cable needle
C4B= slip next 2 st. on cable needle hold at back work, knit next 2 st., than knit 2 st. from cable needle

Mini Mittens

or just any scrap worsted yarn will do!
You don' use that much.

Needles & Notions :
US Size 3 Double Pointed
3 Stitch Markers
Stitch Holder
Yarn Needle
Row Counter if needed


Finished Size : about 3 1/2 inches


Abbreviations :K = Knit
M1 = Make 1 Stitch
PM = Place Marker
SM = Slip Marker to Next Needle
K2Tog = Knit 2 Stitches Together
CO = Cast On
2 X 2 Ribbing = K2, P2 to end.


Pattern Instructions

Cuff :
Leaving a 6" - 10" cast on tail, (to tie mittens together when done) you can always cut it later, depending on how long you want it to be, I tied mine so that one side way longer than the other.
CO 20
PM, Join for knitting in round.
2 X 2 Ribbing for 1"


Setting Up For Thumb :
Row 1 : Knit
Row 2 : K13, PM, M1, K1, M1, PM, K6.
Row 3 : Knit
Row 4 : K13, SM, M1, K3, M1, SM, K6.
Row 5 : Knit
Row 6 : K13, SM, M1, K5, M1, SM, K6.
Row 7 : K13, remove marker, place 7 stitches on stitch holder, remove marker, k6.
Row 8 : K13, M1, K6. (20 Stitches)
Row 9 : Knit
Knit every row til mitten measures 2 1/2" or desired length.


Shaping Top (Dec.) :Row 1 : K2, K2Tog, to end.
Row 2 : Knit
Row 3 : K1, K2Tog, to end.
Row 4 : Knit
Row 5 : K2Tog, to end.
Cut yarn, weave through remaining stitches.


Thumb :Place 7 stitches from holder on 3 DP needles evenly.
Row 1 : M1, Knit to end.
Row 2-4 : Knit
Row 5 : K2Tog, to end.
Cut yarn, pull through remaining stitches.


Finishing
Weave in ends.
Start on Mitten 2.
