Pattern Instructions

Leg

CO 52 (60, 64, 72, 76)
PM (one in the different color), join for knitting in rd.
2 X 2 ribbing for the length that you like. Mine is about 1".

Here is how to place cable pat.
You may place it anywhere you like but this is how you should do it if you choose to have one on each side of the sock. I usually just place a maker on each side of cable pat. so that I don't forget and then have to back track.

Sts in the ( ) are your instep sts.

use the st makers that are the same color here

You may divide your sts however you like on the DPNs, or you divid them 1 of 2 ways,

way 1 : divid your sts in half, then divide one set of those sts in half, see picture.
Say you CO 72
needle 1 half your sts (36 sts), needle 2 & 3 divid the other half of those sts ( needle 2 - 18 sts, needle 3 - 18 sts)

way 2 :
If you CO 52,
k12, (PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM, k8, PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM), k12.
If you CO 60,
k14, (PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM, k12, PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM) k14.
If you CO 64,
k15 (PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM, k14, PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM), k15.
If you CO 72,
K17, (PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM, k18, PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM) k17.
If you CO 76,
k18, (PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM, k20, PM, 10 sts for cable pat, PM) k18.

Cont. til length of leg is desired length.

Heel Flap
The begining of your rd should be in the middle of the heel flap sts.
When you are ready to knit the heel flap, start in the rd just before that. And when you come the the heel sts, cont. in heel flap pat.

Work back and forth on heel sts in rows as follows :
Row 1 : (RS) *Sl 1 pwise with yarn in back (wyb), k1; rep from*
Row 2 : Sl 1 pwise with yarn in front (wyf), purl to end.
Rep rows 1 & 2 until a total of 26 ( 30, 32, 36, 38) rows have been worked
13 (15, 16, 18, 19) selvedge sts.

Heel Turn
Work short rows as follows :
Row 1 : (RS) k15 (17, 18, 20, 21), ssk, k1, turn work.
Row 2 : (WS) Sl 1, p5, p2tog, p1, turn.
Row 3 : Sl 1, knit to 1 st before gap made on previous row, ssk (1 st from each side of gap), k1, turn.
Row 4 : Sl 1, purl to 1 st before gap made on previous row, p2tog (1 st from each side of gap), p1, turn.
Repeat rows 3 & 4 until all heel sts have been worked. End with WS row.

Gusset
One extra st is picked up along the selvedge in corner to avoid a hole. Or pick up as many as you would like so that there are no holes, you would just have to do a few extra dec. rds.
Rd 1 : With one needle, k across all heel sts, then pick up and knit 14, (16, 17, 19, 20) sts along selvedge edge of heel flap, with another needle, work across 26 (30, 32, 36, 38) held instep sts, with another needle, pick up and knit 14 (16, 17, 19, 20) sts along other side of heel flap, then k across the first 8 (9, 9, 10, 11) heel sts from first needle. Rd now begins at center back heel.
Rd 2 : On first needle knit to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1; on second needle k all instep sts, on third needle k1, ssk, k to end. (2 sts dec.)
Rd 3 : k all sts.
Repeat rds 2 & 3 until you have 52 (60, 64, 72, 76) sts.

Foot
Work even until piece measures 5 1/2 (6 1/2, 7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2)" from back of heel, or about 1 1/2 ( 1 3/4, 2, 2 1/4, 2 1/4)" less than desired total foot length.
You can also make the foot length as long as you would like.

Toe
Rd 1 : First needle, k to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1;
second needle, k1, ssk, work to last 3 sts, k2tog, k1;
third needle, k1, ssk, k to end. (4 sts dec)
Rd 2 : k all sts.
Repeat rds 1 & 2 until 24 (28, 32, 36, 40) sts rem.
Repeat rd 1 until you have 8 (12, 12, 16, 16) sts . Then k sts from first needle onto needle 3 --- 4 ( 6, 6, 8 , 8) sts on each of your two needles.

Finishing
Finishing Toe
Cut yarn leaving a 12" tail. Use Kitchener st to graft toe sts together. See notes.Weave in ends.

Pattern Instructions

Note :
The easy way to do this bag (and explain it) is place st markers before and after each cable pat. You need 2 row counter because you need one for the 9 stitch cable pattern and one for the giant braid cable pattern. I used two different colors. I wrote down next to pattern the color used, so I didn't forget which went with which cable pattern. For example : blue with 9-st cable pat. and red with giant braid cable pat. It's really rather easy once you get the hang of it. The bag/cables are done on reverse St. st.

The cables are separted by 8 sts, except begining and end.

So, pattern would go like this :
(RS) p9, PM, 9-St. cable pat, PM, p8, PM, giant braid cable pat, PM, p8, 9-St cable pat,PM, p9.
(WS) k9, PM, 9-St. cable pat, PM, k8, PM, giant braid cable pat, PM, k8, PM, 9-St. cable pat, PM, k9.

CO 70

This cable pat. is done twice, one on each side of the giant cable.

panel of 9 sts on background of reverse St. st.

Row 1 : k9
Row 2 : p9
Row 3 & 4 : Rep the last 2 rows once more

Row 7 : k4, {MB = (k1, yf, k1, yf, k1) into the same st., turn, and k5, turn and p5, turn and sl 1, k1, psso, k1, k2tog, turn and p3tog, (1 bobble completed)} k4.
Row 8 : p9
Row 9 -12 : Rep 1st and 2nd rows twice more.

Rep these 12 rows.

This cable pat. is done once, it's the big main cable in the middle of the bag.

Giant Braid Cable

panel of 18 sts on background of reverse St. st.

Row 1 : k18
Row 2 : p18
Row 3 : k6, C12F.
